Akron Symphony

The Akron Symphony’s next concert will be led by Guest Conductor Benjamin Zander.  That program, in Akron’s E. J. Thomas on Saturday evening, January 19th, will feature Alexander Korsantia as soloist in Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3. 

Art Song Festival

German baritone Benjamin Appl will perform in a recital presented by the Art Song Festival.  The concert, at CIM’s Mixon Hall on Friday evening, January 18th,  will include songs by Schubert, Schumann, Duparc and others. 

Brass Band of the Western Reserve

Keith Wilkinson will direct the Brass Band of the Western Reserve in a concert at First Baptist Church of Greater Cleveland on Sunday afternoon, January 27th


Broadway in Cleveland

The Broadway in Cleveland series at Playhouse Square will present Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella January 15th through 20th.  216-640-8800


Clague Playhouse

Clague Playhouse will begin the new year with Other Desert Cities by Jon  Robin Baitiz.  Opening night is January 11th .  The show will continue through February 3rd.  440-331-0403  

Cleveland International Piano Competition

The Cleveland International Piano Competition will present Jeremy Denk in recital on Saturday evening, January 19th, at Mixon Hall at the Cleveland Institute of Music.  He’ll play music of Beethoven, Bizet, Mendelssohn, Schumann and John Adams.  216-707-5397  

Cleveland Jazz Orchestra

The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra and the Musical Theater Project will combine forces to present two performances of Cole Porter on Broadway.  They’ll be at the Hanna Theater in Playhouse Square on Saturday evening, January 19th, and at Temple Tifereth Israel on Sunday afternoon, the 20th.  800-838-3006  


Cleveland Playhouse

The next production at the Cleveland Playhouse is An Iliad by Lisa Peterson and Denis O’Hare.  It’s in the Outcault Theater January 12th through February 10th.  216-241-6000  

Ensemble Theater

Ensemble Theater in Cleveland Heights will perform Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun January 25th through February 17th

Federated Church

On Sunday afternoon, Jaunary 20th, at the Federated Church in Chagrin Falls, violinist Andrew Sords will be joined by members of the  Cavani String Quartet and pianist Elizabeth DeMio in the Schumann Piano Quintet as well as muisc of Rachmaninoff, Brahms, Sarasate and Moszkowski.  440-247-6490


Play It Forward Cleveland

Play It Forward Cleveland is an instrument donation drive for the children of Cleveland.  The Cleveland Orchestra is cooperating with Cleveland City Councilman Kevin Conwell, Arts Cleveland, the Center for Arts-Inspired Learning and the Cleveland Metropolitan School District in collecting previously-loved, playable instruments for children who want to study music.  The first collection date is MLK Monday, January 21st from noon until five.  There will be other dates in February and March.

Theater in the Circle

Theater in the Circle has a new retelling of the O. Henry classis The Gift of the Magi with five performances Thursday, Decembr 6th, through Sunday the 9th at Judson Manor in University Circle. 

Tuesday Musical

Akron’s Tuesday Musical will present Israeli pianist Inon Barnatan and the Calidore String Quartet at E. J. Thomas Hall on Tuesday evening, January 22nd.  330-761-3460  

Weathervane Playhouse

At Akron’s Weathervane Playhouse, John Cariani’s romantic comedy Almost Maine will be playing the Founders Theater from January 17th through February 3rd.   330-836-2626  

Workshop Players

The Workshop Players of Amherst will perform the Doo-Wop musical Forever Plaid January 17th through 27th.  440-988-5613
