Akron Symphony

Daniel Hege will be the Akron Symphony’s Guest Conductor on Saturday evening, January 20th.  Gabriela Martinez will be the soloist in the Prokofiev Piano Concerto No. 2.  The program will also include the Second Symphony of Brahms.  The concert takes place at Akron’s E. Arts Renaissance Tremont

The Arts Renaissance Tremont concert series will feature a recital by the Cleveland Orchestra’s former Principal Clarinet, Franklin Cohen, and pianist Zsolt Bognar on Sunday afternoon, January 21st.  They’ll perform music of Beethoven, Brahms, Faure, Poulenc and Weinberg at Pilgrim Congregational Church on West 14th Street in Tremont.  

Baldwin Wallace Men's Chorus

The BW Men’s Chorus takes its annual holiday concert to the East side for the first time.  Sounds of the Season takes place Friday, December 8 at 7:30pm at Plymouth Church in Shaker Heights.  216-921-3510.

Chagrin Concert Series

The next concert in the Chagrin Concert Series will feature pianist Per Enflo with the Cleveland Virtuosi conducted by Hristo Popov in two concertos by Mozart.  The concert takes place at Valley Lutheran Church in Chagrin Falls on Sunday afternoon, January 21st.  

Cleveland Orchestra

Music Director Franz Welser-Moest will conduct the Cleveland Orchestra in two different concerts at Severance Hall.  On Thursday and Saturday, January 18th and 20th, Haydn’s oratorio The Seasons will be the single work on the program, while on Friday evening, January 19th, it’s all Beethoven, including the First and Third Symphonies, as well as the Creatures of Prometheus Overture.   216-231-1111  

Cleveland Playhouse

The Cleveland Playhouse will have Marie and Rosetta, the story of Sister Rosetta Tharpe, playing January 20th through February 11th

Cleveland Public Theater

Cleveland Public Theater will present Entry Point, a four-day program of new play development in a festival atmosphere at a variety of venues in the Gordon Square area Thursday through Sunday, January 18th through 21st.  216-631-2727 ext 501  

Cleveland State University Angelin Chang

At Cleveland State University, pianist Angelin Chang will be joined by violinist Eli Matthews and horn players Hans Clebsch for music of Beethoven, Schumann, Rachmaninoff and Brahms on Monday evening, January 22nd in Drinko Recital Hall. 

Cleveland State University Ars Futura

Cleveland State University will present a concert by the Ars Futura Ensemble featuring music of Greg D’Alessio and Andrew Rindfleisch on Friday evening, January 19th, in CSU’s Drinko Hall. 

Cleveland State University Keyboard Conversations

The 30th Anniversary Season of Jeffrey Siegel’s Keyboard Conversations will return to Cleveland State University on Sunday afternoon, January 21st.  The topic is Keys to the Classics, with music of Mozart, Beethoven and Haydn.  216-687-5018  

Credo Music

Credo Music and the Oberlin Conservatory of music present a free Winter chamber music recital with music of Brahms, Mendelssohn and Dvorak by a group of students who will then travel to Texas and Puerto Rico.  The performance takes place on Thursday evening, January 25th in Kulas Recital Hall. 

DANCECleveland

DanceCleveland and Tri-C Presents will bring the Brazilian modern dance company Grupo Corpo to the Ohio Theater at Playhouse Square on Saturday evening, January 20th, and Sunday afternoon, January 21st.  216-241-6000  

Heights Arts

The second concert of the season for Heights Arts is called Rhythms, Rhymes and the Kitchen Sink.  It takes place on Sunday afternoon, January 21st, at the Bop Stop.  Admission is by advance tickets only.  216-371-3457  

Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra

The Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra’s ensembles will present a pair of concerts on Sunday afternoon, January 21st.  They’ll be joined by students from the NEOS Center for Dance and singers of the Oberlin Choristers, a community-based vocal ensemble. 440-775-3059 

Playhouse Square

The Playhouse Square Broadway series will bring Love Never Dies to town January 9th through the 28th.  It’s the romantic sequel by Andrew Lloyd Webber to his Phantom of the Opera.   216-241-6000  

Trinity Lutheran Church

The noontime Music Near the Market series at Trinity Lutheran Church on West 30th Street in Cleveland will feature organist Robert Myers in a program called Hankering for Hindemith, with music by Hindemith as well as Helmut Walcha and Flor Peeters on Wednesdays, January 17th and 24th.  216-281-1700  

Tuesday Musical

Akron’s Tuesday Musical will bring the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center to Northeast Ohio for music of Dvorak and Brahms on Tuesday evening, January 23rd, in Akron’s E. J. Thomas Hall  

Weathervane Playhouse

Akron’s Weathervane Playhouse performs Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill, reliving one of the last performances of the singer Billie Holiday.  The show runs January 11th through 21st in the Founders Theater.  330-836-2626

 

Wexner Center for the Arts

Ohio State University’s Wexner Center for the Arts will have the world premiere of A Thousand Thoughts by Sam Green and the Kronos Quartet on Thursday evening, January 25th

Workshop Players
